Thursday 8th October 2009 from YouTube comment:

This is moreorless true: Sam once told me a story about his dad, Bill, that I think of when things go wrong, especially when they cost me. Bill had just made some silverware worth about 5k and put it in his car to take to his customer. He then went back into the house for a cup of tea. When he returned to the car, the silver had been stolen. Bill's take on this catastrophic setback? "Oh, I just told myself that I had spent the money on a cruise and had just got back from a fantastic holiday"!

Norman Saxby on Bill

Bill was a real character. His bike in the eighties was a really clapped out thing, complete with false specs and nose. It was such a wreck I would not have even given it to a jumble sajle it was so awful! Yet one day when several of us went up to the Imperial College pool for a swim, somebody actually pinched his bike from outside the pool !   Bill & I often had a side bet on our handicap races. We would challenge each other to a bottle of beer for the winner. Needless to say we took turns in winning. It ended up with us both swapping a bottle of beer with the most unusual name.  such as Snecklifter or Fiddlers Elbow Bill was a great character and a true friend. He will be sadly missed. I am lucky to have many happy memories of him.
